‘Almost every family had some kind of miracle’
HARRISONBURG, Va. — Mennonites in the U.S. in the 1930s and ’40s were struggling with the effects of the Great Depression, and church agencies were organizing to work with the U.S. government to initiate a provision for conscientious objector status for young men during World War II.
American Mennonites may have not been rich, but they were relatively well established.
