Maundy Thursday and accepting care
Amy Yoder McGloughlin
As a pastor, I sometimes lead services that I don’t enjoy participating in. Maundy Thursday is one of those services. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lovely ritual, with an important message — we take care of each other in the body of Christ. Just as Jesus washed his disciples’ feet, we too wash each other’s feet.

God is with me
Amy Yoder McGloughlin
I am the parent of two of the most wonderfully different children. My son, age 12, is linear, cerebral and prone to anxiety. My daughter, age 9, is all heart, spontaneous, and fiercely independent. It’s a challenge to parent that dichotomy with grace and justice.

Challenging my state representatives on immigration
Amy Yoder McGloughlin
On my way to take my 10-year-old son to camp on Aug. 30, I was telling him my plans for the day. I was driving from Philadelphia to Harrisburg with a van full of Mennonites (white and non-white, citizens and undocumented) to oppose the attempts of some State Representatives to enforce laws related to undocumented immigration.

Instead of a head covering, I wear a pastor’s collar
Amy Yoder McGloughlin
Clergy collars are a regular part of the pastoral garb at the multi-denominational seminary I attended. Before seminary, I’d never thought about a symbol of my calling to the ministry, but as my seminary friends moved into their pastoral roles, I began to see the value in it.
