What has mattered to me
How do I bring this column to conclusion? I went back and read again some of what I wrote. It seems appropriate to quote from columns that give a sample of what has mattered to me over these 24 years.
Pastors must accurately perceive their relationships to others. They must be able to listen to and hear the inner voice of the other person’s spirit. If pastors cannot do this with others, it is doubtful they can listen to God. — April 7, 1994

An inclusive Last Supper
A pastoral colleague and friend, Don Steelberg, served two congregations during his ministry: First Mennonite Church of Wadsworth, Ohio, and Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church of Wichita, Kan. He was called upon to oversee holy communion, or the Last Supper, as he prefers to refer to this central symbol of faith.
