Service, stewardship, Second Coming
“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.”

Peter’s legacy of hope
Consider the word “inheritance.” Likely you have in your possession something you’ve inherited from a deceased family member. Is it money, or an object such as a piece of jewelry, a collection of stamps or coins, photographs, letters, books or diaries, a wedding dress or a precious antique?

The end is near?
The overarching theme this quarter is “hope,” and surely no passage in the New Testament expresses hope in life after death better than this passage from 1 Thessalonians.

Jesus, in flesh and spirit
For the third time in our last three Bible passages, we find Jesus partaking of food. And after a miraculous disappearance eating with the travelers on the road to Emmaus, Jesus now makes a miraculous appearance among his disciples.

Breaking bread with Jesus
What is it about sitting around a table and eating together that is so satisfying? Clothed with Christ, watchful prayer
Mom, who was born in the early 1900s, once told me that when she was a child her mother made her children wear their long underwear from Labor Day until Easter. Imagine how free they must have felt when they peeled off the well-used underwear to don new clothing for Easter morning.

Christ reigns supreme
In our church we often sing “Great is the Lord, he is holy and just, by his power we trust in his love.” The hymn expresses the greatness and majesty of our Lord, who is indeed worthy of all the praise and honor that we know how to express. As humans, we love the Creator God, whose majestic works like the rolling sea, enormous sky and majestic mountains awe us.

Running to a higher goal
Watching runners or skaters race fascinates me. Why do some have the stamina and endurance to push themselves while others lag behind?
