The Judas in us all

By James O. Lehman Lindale Mennonite Church, Harrisonburg, Va.

On Youth Sunday, March 6, Lindale’s good-sized MYF did a very commendable piece of work with the worship service, on the topic “The Judas in Us All.” Sponsors Jeremy and Jody Byler, Tara and Cara Kauffman and Luke and Cindy Voth helped plan and lead the service.

Steve Leaman, Mennonite Disaster Service representative, organized a work team to go to Mississippi from March 27 to April 2 to help build new homes. Galen and Gloria Lehman, Virginia Conference Caribbean representatives, visited the Jamaican Mennonite Church Conference in early March. On April 15, a successful fund-raising meal was held to assist the Rodney and Eve Knepp family go to Jamaica later this year for a time of service.

Mennonite Elders Fellowship met March 26 for the annual spring prayer breakfast. David Gullman of Pleasant View Inc. presented the prayer focus.

The Shenandoah Valley Men’s Chorus, under the direction of Ruel Burkholder, Lindale’s music director, gave a concert of a cappella music on April 3 at the Eastern Mennonite High School auditorium.

On April 10, the congregation affirmed Cindy Voth for another four-year term as associate pastor of youth and family life. The board of elders reported the vote as “overwhelming” in favor. On May 1, a similarly “overwhelming positive” vote affirmed Duane Yoder as lead pastor for another four-year term.

The Easter season brought the usual meaningful events April 21-24. Barbara Gautcher, art teacher at EMHS, colorfully illustrated church bulletin front covers from March 13 through April 24.
