Pointing to greater truth
My previous columns on Hebrews noted that this entire sermon alternates between presenting ideas (indicative) and calls to action implied by these ideas (imperative). Texts for these two lessons involve both: 12:18-24 is indicative; 12:25-13:3 is imperative.

Examine the case
As I read the editorial “Activism Gone Too Far” and the news article “Guilty Verdict in Kidnapping Case” (Aug. 20), my mind went to Prov. 18:17: “The first to plead his case seems just, until another comes and examines him.” Knowing Ken Miller’s passionate desire to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ, I felt these articles missed his deep commitment of representing Christ and walking in obedience to the Scriptures. If your report was all I read or knew about his case, it would have a negative and discouraging impact on me.

We laughed along with the audience at the creative way the gospel messages were given. They presented the Truth in a subtle way that made it stick in our minds.
