Silence and fear

By Kenneth R. Ross Manheim, Pa.

Ransford Nicholson (Letters, June 25) alluded to one of the main arguments for homosexual sex not being a viable alternate expression of human sexuality. That argument is based on the relationship that form has to function. In all the universe, every form has a corresponding function. No event can be deemed right and, in this case, considered righteous, if this relationship is violated.

As to Elizabeth Hershberger (Letters June 25), she should never think that being highly educated is required in order to connect the dots indicated by common sense. In fact, she should be encouraged to know that whenever common sense has to be discarded in the attempt to justify anything, the argument associated with that attempt is devoid of validity.

Illicit expressions of sexuality throughout the religious institutions of our nation during the past 20 years, and the most recent scandals among our educational institutions, are stark examples of the chaos created when silence becomes the moderator in controversy and fear, the arbiter in conflict, allowing arrogance to assume the duty of a bailiff who then removes morality from the courtroom that judges human affairs.

Comments

  • where does common sense come from? Antonio Gramsci has some ideas about that....as well as a few ways to use it for a certain kind of social change, including within the church. his group is not the only one of course. there are many kinds of missionaries.
