AKRON, Pa. — Turmoil in Somalia escalated in the last year due to increased political insecurity, drought, flooding and the rising prospect of famine. The United Nations considers Somalia to be suffering the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

The whole story
Joshua 3:1-13 is really only half a lesson. The verses describe how God prepared the Israelites for crossing the Jordan River. First, the people were to consecrate themselves. No details are given in this text, but this consecration may well have involved sacrifices as in the consecration of priests in Ex. 29:1, or following certain dietary restrictions as in Lev. 11:44.
